About Interior design studio Lonneke Salentijn

Interior design studio Lonneke Salentijn | With my studio I mainly focus on families for which I design a custom interior. I inspire and guide people in the process of creating a new interior. Take them out of their comfort zone to create a home that suits them completely, but that they would not have thought of themselves. This can range from color advice to complete interior design advice.

Inspiration | I go to creative fairs or events and take workshops where I use my hands. For example, I like to work with ceramics and make collages from materials, pictures and things that I come across. I am a collector, everything comes in handy at some point. I also enjoy working in our garden, where I often come across beautiful color combinations.

Method for furnishing a children's room | The parents usually have a few photos or a mood board when I come. I ask the parents about their wishes and, if possible, also ask the children what they would like to see and play with. Of course I take into account that a bedroom can last for several years. I make combinations on the spot with different colors and wallpaper. Then I work everything out, draw different layouts, create a mood board with style description, 3D visualizations and a shopping list. I bundle this in a nice booklet and deliver it together with the samples. This way they can immediately get started with my advice.

Tips for a nursery

Nursery layout | Make different layouts on paper. I think it is important that the bed is given the most suitable place in the room. A bed should provide security. Create several corners for your child, they will like that.

What should not be missing in a children's room | A children's room for little ones under three should not lack a changing table and a nice chair for the parents. When the children get older, the changing table is unnecessary and a desk or table with chair is nice. And color, color should not be missing in a children's room.

Tips on colors | Combine the color you like with other colors. Make different combinations in advance. You will see that the color appears different every time. This can easily be done with samples from the hardware store. I also always take the light and size of the room into account. Consider in advance whether you want to create a visually larger or smaller cozy room.

Styling tips | My tip is to look at your idea or plan for the room when choosing styling items. If the room has a certain style or theme, stick to it. What I like is to hang groups of items together on a wall. For example, a framed poster, wall hanger and a wall shelf together. Combine prints with each other. There is something playful about that and that is certainly allowed in a children's room. And the last tip: use wallpaper. In all the advice for children's rooms or playrooms I have recommended wallpaper. I think it's a cheerful addition. It immediately completes a room and adds atmosphere.

Nursery with big cats wallpaper

Principles for decorating the children's room | The bedroom has a very high wall and a sloping roof. That was the most important starting point. How do we ensure that we are not bothered by the height difference, but rather make use of it? Because Jip is a real animal fan and we recently got a cat ourselves, I chose the big cats wallpaper from Studio Ditte as another important starting point.

Approach |The room is very light, which is why the dark big cats wallpaper works well here. I chose the colors for the wallpaper. The brown-red of the striped wall is reflected in the big cats wallpaper. The dark green is actually a color that does not appear in it. But it fits in nicely because the color differs from the other colors.

Nursery layout |Grandpa has made a cupboard against the high wall. I once saw this on Pinterest. Next to it I made stripes on the wall. This creates a corner where he plays and reads books. Next to the window I placed a desk and chair that I took over from a local family, it is more than 60 years old. I gave it the same green color as the wall so that it becomes more unified. The bed house does not fit completely against the wall due to the height of the ceiling. A shelf has been made that fills the space between the bed and the wall. This is used for books, as a bedside table and to display cuddly toys and toys.

Wall color codes | Brown-red is Iodine from Gamma. Green is Turbo from Gamma.

Mix and match | It's not really one style. The desk and chair are vintage and the cupboard is again quite modern, sleek. I like mix and match. A touch of vintage with animal fever… ;)
